Souler Coaster gets socially aware!
We are now officially "out there."  There is a social network for every fancy and were doing them all, except Twitter at the moment.  We have a variety of pictures, videos and new MP3's posted on there.  Join our groups, friend us, add us check out our photos etc. etc. etc!

"Ange" has left the building
The great Andy Pilger, our main man on the trumpet for nearly 5 years, has gracefully ended his run with SoulerCoaster.  Andy joined the band and took our horn section to a new level.  He faithfully wrote all of the horn charts for the band, charting out scores of various songs to create one of the "toughest books" in Richmond, as noted by other stand in horn players.  Andy is a devoted husband and daddy.  We had a lot of fun times together and hilarious ones too.  Thanks for defining b. c. for us!  We are sad to see Andy go, but thanks dude, it has been a great run!

SoulerCoaster Emerges!
We just recently changed our name from Phat Albert to SoulerCoaster.  Many of you have gotten to know us as Phat Albert.  Don't worry, we are the same band!  We just went through a little name change.  We still play the same music and funk out just like before, although we have added many new songs to our list!  Come see us at our next live gig!

Dab has left the building
The great Chris Dabney otherwise known as "cdab," our beloved rhythm guitarist, has moved on to new endeavors.  Chris was a founding member of the band.  His relatively quiet demeanor lent an heir of wise perception to everything that we did.  We will miss his "baka baka" rhythms and chord progression transcriptions that were ALWAYS right on, not to mention his "hard to hit" lower vocal harmonies.  Chris is now playing lead/rhythm guitars with Flat Elvis, and we wish him good luck as he continues his musical career..  cYA cDAB!

Thanks to our Souler Coaster "sub" musicians!
Anyone who has ever tried it knows: Sitting in with a band with little or no rehearsal and very little time to prepare is incredibly difficult. Only the best musicians can pull this off. For this reason, we would like to acknowledge a few people who have graced our stage with their presence and great performances over the past few years, in the spirit of "filling in"!

  • Margeaux LeSourd (vocals)

  • Smanatha Hewlett (vocals)

  • Michelle Saud (vocals)

Studio Tracks
SoulerCoaster recorded a new audio demo on Labor day weekend 2002 at The Project Studio on Main Street.  We laid down the rhythm to about 25 funky tracks in about 3 hours and the vocals were almost all done in one take.  The audio that we recorded will be the background for our upcoming promotional video.

Thanks to our "Phat-guest" musicians
Occasionally, we have invited guest musicians to join us...sometimes this has been planned, sometimes not. The following is a list of these talented individuals:

  • Kevin Bledsoe (vocals)

  • Angie Atkinson (vocals)

  • Michelle Saud (vocals)

  • Belinda Butcher (vocals)

  • Jeri Moon (vocals)

  • Jeff Glotzl (percussion)

  • Mike Boehling (trumpet) - a Phat-Phave!

Nice Arrangements!
Also a special thanks to Greg Lucado (Dave's Brother) for sitting in with the band on Trombone, and for horn arrangements including the arrangement for "Sweet Love."
