Based in Richmond, VA, SoulerCoaster
is
a nine-piece band specializing in danceable Funk, R&B, and Disco music
of the '70s. With live horns, four vocalists, guitars, keyboards, bass,
drums, and percussion, this band can provide a groove that's as slick as
polyester, and as funky as anyone foolish enough to wear that stuff.
Each individual player brings a great
deal of experience to the SoulerCoaster
mix. All have been professional musicians for 10-20 years, including two in national touring and recording acts, and others that have toured
regionally. This experience came in handy recently when the band was tapped to perform for the star-studded
"Knock Out Abuse" benefit, where they entertained Quincy Jones, Michael Jordan, Bo Derek, Evander
Holyfield, and a host of NFL greats.
The core that founded the group, Chris Buerkley (vocals/ percussion),
Rich
Lehman (drums/vocals), and Mike LaBarre
(bass/vocals), have played
together in various combinations of rock and acoustic acts for over a decade. Jeff Doyle (guitar) was bandleader for The Press, an East Coast favorite
for over ten years. Over the same period, keyboardist Eric Lawson toured
with national recording artists Fighting Gravity. SoulerCoaster
's exclusive
horn section, the "Pillars of Soul" - Mark
Ingraham
(trumpet), Tommy Daughtrey (saxophone) and Dave Lucado (trombone)
- come from lengthy jazz, blues, and funk backgrounds. Vocalist Monica Jackson has toured and recorded with some of the best musicians in the world of
R&B.
SoulerCoaster
was formed with the idea
that the music should be fun for both the audience and the band. This translates
into grooves that range from high energy to smooth and laid-back, while
remaining danceable throughout. Here, you will find no "stripped-down" arrangements.
Rather than settle for just the basic elements of a song, SoulerCoaster
has the right instrumentation to create that nostalgic, full and exciting
sound for your next event.
