Chris Dabney
Guitar, Backing Vocals
Enthralled by MTV, Chris decided to buy
his first guitar/amp combo in 1984. As he also happened to be a big Rush
fan, it was no surprise that the first song he learned was "Tom Sawyer"
(the beginner's one string version). As he began to learn chords, his copy
of "Exit Stage Left" developed bubbles on the tape where he had
started and stopped it so many times.
Dabney's professional career began in 1994
when he got together with his old high school friend Chris Buerkley
to form a band-for-hire. This group eventually tapered off into the acoustic duo Chris &
Chris, which played the local pub circuit for several years.
While rehearsing new material for the acoustic
act in 1997, Dabney brought up the idea of starting an electric band. Buerkley
agreed, provided it would be a funk band--Dabney, who had no real history
with this genre, decided it would be fun to try something new, and has really
cut his funky teeth in SoulerCoaster
.
Alongside SoulerCoaster
, Chris gigged with Point 08 for awhile, and has been jamming and recording with various
Richmond artists in recent years.
